Psalm 46
The concept of time has confronted philosophers and scientists alike for, well, all of time. For being such an intangible construct, time does a really good job of controlling our lives. It is something we never seem to have enough of. We toil away day after day, and can never gain any head way against it. Its like an ever prevailing wind on the ocean; in order to make headway while sailing into the wind, you have to tack into it, turning back and forth, in order to make headway against it. Time feels like that. With the press of time, it is easy to get caught up in focusing on the things we have the least of in life, like time, money, relationships, etc. One book of the bible that really speaks to me about God's relationship with man is Psalms. In Psalm 46, God says, "Be still and know that I am God...I will be exalted in the earth." I know that in my life, when I feel like I'm short on time, and long on projects, my tendency is to go into spartan mode and shut down everything else I feel is unnecessary, in order to complete what is most important. Even though I'm still focusing on God, many times I let other things become bigger than God in my viewfinder, and I start to lose focus. Instead of focusing on those things that I think I need more of, like time, good grades, and money, I should instead focus on what I already have, like the relationships I have with people, how nice the weather is, how God is changing me into his image, and his undying love for me. All of the things that God has so richly blessed in my life. If you reading this today, and you feel the weight of time, projects, relationships, or anything else, I'm telling you right now: just stop. Stand still. Know that God is who he says he is. His promises never fail. Take some time, even when it seems you have none, to reflect on those things that God has blessed in your life. Go for a walk. Watch the sun as it sinks over the horizon. Instead of seeing your life constrained by time, give control of your life up to God and let him guide your destiny. Your were never in control in the first place. Most importantly: Stand still. Stop running. Know that God is who he is. He will never fail on his promises. That is something worth living through time for.
